UPR PRISE Application Form

Dear candidate,

Thank you for your interest in the UPR-PRISE Program.

The University of Puerto Rico in Ponce (UPRP) Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement is a 5-year student training grant (#R25GM096955) funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences at NIH. Through research training in the biomedical sciences and professional development, PRISE aims to increase the intellectual and technical capabilities of our students who complete B.S. degrees in Biology and Biomedical Sciences and go on to pursue graduate studies in Biomedical Sciences.

Application requirements

Freshman (1st year)

- High school GPA of 3.40 or more
- Admitted to UPR-Ponce Biology department (enrolled in Biology I & II, Chemistry I & II,
Pre-Calculus I & II)
- academic or professional referees - (Don't ask for letter of recommendations, we will send an evaluation form)

Sophomore (2nd year or higher)

- GPA of 3.40 or more
- Have 30 approved course credits (General Biology 1 & 2, General Chemistry 1 & 2 and
Pre-Calculus 1 & 2.)
- academic or professional referees - (Don't ask for letter of recommendations, we will send an evaluation form)

Important! The application below must be completed in its entirety at once since it will not let you save and continue later.

You will be asked for contact information (name and email) of 2 references so please have this on hand. You will also be asked for two (2) written statements, no less than 250 words and no more than 500 words, in English: a) Describe your research experience or projects, if any, including any laboratory skills, abilities, hobbies, and/or previous work in science that may contribute to your success in this program. b) Future goals or plans upon graduating from college.

If you do not meet the minimum application requirements, you can still submit an application for consideration as an adjunct member. In the written statement please mention why you would like to participate in PRISE.
